Mulholland Madness Closes

Ryan "Leaky Tiki"
March 7, 2001

Just over a month after the opening of Disney's California Adventure, the Resort has officially announced the temporary closing of Mulholland Madness. This closing comes after three separate minor accidents happened on this wild attraction. Resort officials note that the closing is due to the fact the attraction is not operating at set Disney standards, not the recent accidents.

Guests who have ventured onto this attraction immediately recognize the thrill is not from its speed or drops, but from the feeling that they are going to go flying right off the track around each turn. Because of this design those aboard are thrown into the side of the car while making the hairpin u-turns. This makes it easy for those who are not paying attention to injure themselves slightly.

Any modifications to the attraction in both speed and smoothness may lead to a reduced thrill. At the same time it will also reduce the likelihood of injuries. If the changes were taken to a further extent beyond just safety modifications, the Resort would be better able to re-brand the attraction as one made for children. Many Guests have complained about the lack of things for their kids to do, and this change would take one step closer to adding another attraction geared toward the younger members of the family.

Currently the Resort is listing June 30, 2001 as the reopening date for the modified version of Mulholland Madness.
