Ever since the much-publicized politically correct rehab of Pirates of the Caribbean, many anxiously await the reopening of the popular attraction after it has been closed for any length of time. As with all of the more recent refurbishments, Pirates has reopened with only minor changes, and a fresh cleaned up look.
The first thing that Guests will notice as they enter the attraction is the updated fiber optic sign on the beach scene. Rather than fading in and out as it did before the sign now steadily displays the Pirates of the Caribbean logo while fading through different colors.
The attraction's loading area holds the largest update. New gates have been installed to keep Guests from stepping past the yellow line. As with the Big Thunder Mountain gates, these are well themed to the attraction.
Throughout the entire ride lighting level have been increased slightly. The bayou is much brighter than it once was, with more lighting along its edges. The first caves with the skeleton beach scene continue to glow brightly with all the colors of the rainbow. The rest of the attraction features minor lighting updates, including some flickering spotlights on some of the pirates in the Burning Town scene.
Finally the Skeleton Captain scene has been updated quite a bit. Lighting in this scene has changed, and some of the effects were enhanced to bring the scene to life. Rather than just a dark shadowy outline, it is now very evident what the scene represents.
This most recent Pirates rehab freshened up the attraction making minor adjustments to many different areas.
