The Disney Company will officially apply for Planning Commission approval on their 78 acre third theme park Monday. While the Resort has still not released details on the third park, last year they mentioned that it might be a water park, or a park based on popular themed attractions else where around the Disney globe. Some of the rumors have included a water park based on Typhoon Lagoon in Walt Disney World, or a park along the lines of the new Tokyo Disney Seas, which is set to open in September this year.

The new park, which will be located south of Katella Ave and east of Harbor Blvd, could contain up to 3350 hotel rooms as well as dining, retail, and transportation facilities. Also on the books is an additional 9,000 car parking structure, which would sit between Harbor and Clementine Street just north of Disney Way.

While park construction was initially supposed to begin in 2003 with completion in 2010, the Disney Company's tight budget may change plans a bit. With slow crowds at California Adventure, layoffs are on the rise and CEO Michael Eisner says the company is having to cut millions in expenses.

While there are many good arguments for a water park in the Disney area, as it would offer guests a place to relax and cool off during their theme park visit, Intercot West would love to see a park along the lines of Tokyo Disney Seas. The quality and detail in this park is unbelievable, and many think it is what California Adventure could have/should have been.
