The classic Country Bear Playhouse attraction that has run for twenty-nine years at Disneyland Park will lower its curtain for the last time on Sunday, September 9, 2001. The long-time favorite is being closed to clear the way for a new attraction, which is rumored to be a Winnie-the-Pooh dark ride. The attraction has been loved by many over the years and will certainly be missed.
The Country Bear Playhouse features over twenty Audio-Animatronics bears singing songs, playing fiddles, and dancing jigs about their beary exciting adventures. It began its run back in 1972 as the Country Bear Jamboree in the land then known as Bear Country. The bears were the first attraction to be recreated from a show in Walt Disney World, Florida, which premiered in 1971. In 1984, the Country Bear Jamboree started a seventeen-year yuletide tradition of transforming into a Country Bear Christmas Special, which featured a totally reprogrammed show of fun and songs in celebration of the holidays. With the opening of Splash Mountain in 1989, the Country Bear Jamboree was re-themed to fit in with the new land of Critter Country, and thus became the Country Bear Vacation Playhouse that will make its final run on September 9th.
Cynthia Harriss, president of the Disneyland Resort, spoke about the closing of the classic. "We are constantly in the process of refreshing and updating our parks with new shows and attractions. The Country Bears have been a part of DISNEYLAND for nearly 30 years, and we feel it is time give our cast of bears a well-deserved rest and create a brand new attraction for our guests to enjoy," she said.
The Country Bear Playhouse has been loved by many over the years and will certainly be missed here at Intercot West.
