In a complete reversal of expectations, the Disneyland Resort this weekend has been extremely empty and slow. Waits for attractions in both Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure have been labeled as 0 minutes for attractions such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Soarin' Over California. With a combination of cold and rainy weather and possibly fear of large crowds, it appears as though many guests have stayed away from the Resort this weekend. Depending on weather tomorrow there may be a few more guests that seen Thursday, Friday or Saturday. It seems as though these small crowds even took Disneyland by surprise as the Guest Relations recorded information line, informed Guests that they could park at Edison Field and take free shuttles to the Resort.

The opening of Disney's newest theme park is rapidly approaching, with the official debut to the press and special invited guests taking place 7:30 am, February 8, 2001. At 8:00 am the park will open its gates to its first official guests. Those wishing to become part of the guest list on February 8 will be spending the night at the Disneyland Resort. It has been announced that those guests wishing to enter California Adventure, may arrive at 5:00 pm at the Mickey and Friends Parking Structure, February 7, 2001. Any guest arriving earlier will be turned away and asked to come back at 5:00 pm. A ticket booth will be set up for guests who have yet to purchase tickets for the new park, or who currently do not hold an Annual Passport. At 8:00 am on the 8th the line of guests will be escorted into Disney's California Adventure.

As of Saturday, February 3, 2001, the Disneyland Resort has suspended sales of all Disneyland and 2-Park Annual Passports to new Passholders. This announcement comes on the heels of ongoing parking problems at the Resort. Guest Relations Cast Members at the Resort are informing guests that this suspension is to help reduce the number of Annual Passholders in the parks, for fear their numbers may begin to affect the trips of regular ticket holding guests. Some reports have placed the number of Annual Passholders at around 400,000, nearly double what it was five years ago. Guests who currently hold Annual Passports will be able to renew their passes, but only to the exact pass they currently hold. Upgrades to the 2-park passport have also been stopped. For example guests holding a Disneyland Deluxe Annual Passport may only renew to a Disneyland Deluxe Annual Passport. The renewal must be done within 30 days of a current pass expiring.

The Orange County Register has published a news article regarding the state's opinion on the Pirates of the Carribean accident last Tuesday, January 30. A woman fell backwards while unloading from the boat and struck her head, suffering from a small concussion. The State has made a preliminary conclusion that the ride operator was at fault for the accident, and instructed Disney to go over loading and unloading procedures with Cast Members.
