Introduction

"To all who come to the happy place welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here, age relieves fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America…with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world," Walter Elias Disney, July 17, 1955.

These words will forever live in the hearts of millions, who travel from the corners of the globe, to visit a tiny 300-acre plot of land that transforms dreams in to reality for all who "leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy." This "tiny 300-acre plot of land" is best known as the Disneyland Resort where guests can experience Walt Disney's original Disneyland, explore the wonders of Golden State in Disney's California Adventure, or live it up in the Downtown Disney shopping and entertainment complex. Guests also have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Disneyland experience and relax at one of the three official Disneyland Resort Hotels or stay at one of the many local hotels around the Resort.

Disneyland
Disneyland Park is one of the world's most famous landmarks. Walt's "Dreamers and Doers" built this magical place on nostalgia of the past, the beauty of the present, the wonders of the future, and the revelry of fantasy. Walt's intimate involvement with the creation of this one of a kind theme park is evident at every turn and though it may have relatives in Florida, Paris and Tokyo, Disneyland is surrounded by the magic of his touch. Many attractions are found only here, and guests gain a sense that the park was finished by its creator and not by his successors. Disneyland has been cherished for decades and will be cherished for decades to come.

Disney's California Adventure
Disney's California Adventure is the newest Disneyland Resort theme park featuring 55-acres of fun in the sun, California style. Originally destined to become the West Coast version of EPCOT from Walt Disney World, this second gate signals the first major renovation at the Disneyland Resort since Disneyland Park first opened in 1955. Disney's California Adventure celebrates the beauty and diversity of the Golden State, from its beachfront boardwalks to the amazing splendor of its natural surroundings. The park itself from design to atmosphere recreates the kinetic and lively culture that is California.

Downtown Disney
Downtown Disney includes a large array of shops, restaurants and entertainment, including jazz clubs, an ESPN Zone, and The Rainforest Café. This open-to-the-public shopping experience mirrors that of Downtown Disney in Walt Disney World, but with a classic Disneyland twist. Guests will find this complex a great getaway for a night on the town or as an entertaining supplement to the Disneyland Resort Theme Parks.

Resort and Local Hotels
The Anaheim Resort district is surrounded by a myriad of accommodations, from small local motels to the Marriott, Hilton, or one of the three Disneyland Resort Hotels. Guests can choose to stay in Disney's California Adventure at the Grand Californian Hotel, overlook the park at Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel, or decide to stay at the original Disneyland Hotel. Whatever the budget the Anaheim Resort offers an option.

This Guide
When guests are planning a trip to The Disneyland Resort, they often have a plethora of seemingly simple questions that can be very hard to answer: "When should I ride this attraction?" "How can I avoid the crowds?" "I've heard holiday periods, and the summertime are the most crowded. Is this true?" And not to forget the most important: "Where are the BATHROOMS!?!?" The Intercot West Resort Guide has been designed to help answer those tricky questions and to provide guests with all the additional information they might need when planning a trip to The Disneyland Resort.

If there is information or questions that are still left unanswered after reading this guide, INTERCOT West offers a free discussion board, where other Disneyland Resort and INTERCOT West guests will help give to give their thoughts, opinions and knowledge on many subjects. INTERCOT West also offers a Guest Relations department who will be more than happy to take suggestions for the site, respond to questions, or provide more assistance in trip planning. INTERCOT Guest Relations can be contacted at: Guest Relations

Note: While INTERCOT West Guest Relations is more than happy to help with most questions that are sent, it cannot make complete outlines for trips to the Disneyland Resort, and cannot mail additional guides or information to site visitors. INTERCOT West provides a purely online experience and currently does not offer any physical documentation that can be mailed out to guests who make the request.

Special Notice: While INTERCOT West staff members make every effort to keep this guide as updated as possible, we strongly suggest that guest's double check all important information with official Disneyland sources. This can do this by calling The Disneyland Resort's Guest Relations Department at (714) 781-7290, or by consulting the Disneyland Today guidebook and/or California Adventure guide received each day upon entrance to the appropriate Disney theme park. We highly recommend that guests double check any information may change between the time of reading the INTERCOT West Resort Guide and visiting the resort.

When Disneyland opened July 17, 1955, it featured only 17 attractions, 8 less than Disney's California Adventure on it's opening on February 8, 2001.

Neither park was anticipated to be a success. Many critics claimed Disneyland would never make it, in fact even Walt's brother Roy disliked the concept so much he gave no initial funding to begin construction on Disneyland.

Disney's California Adventure has receive equally negative criticism by Disney fans, but this time the Disney Company is well behind the construction of this new theme park. Only time will reveal the successfulness of Anaheim's second theme park.
