Disney's parking system has undergone many changes due to construction on Disney's California Adventure. Parking is likely to move again after the park is open and underway, so be on the lookout for parking updates.
Currently The Disneyland Resort has four main parking areas and one reserve lot. All guests with the exception of Annual Passholders can enter the park from Harbor Blvd. Annual Passholders are now restricted from using this entrance and must park in the Mickey and Friends parking structure. This entrance offers two parking lots, Timon and Simba. The lots are located off of Harbor Blvd. where guests can turn left on Harbor from Ball Road or right on Harbor blvd. from Katella Avenue. Guests can also access this lot by traveling in the carpool lane on I-5 north (carpool lane and NORTHbound only) and exiting Disney Way, which will lead them directly into the Timon/Simba lots. Guests that arrive early enough in the morning on a busier day, usually before 10 a.m. or 11 a.m., will be parked in the Timon lot. This lot is situated on a corner of the old Disneyland parking lot and is the closest to the Main Entrances of the theme parks. There are two trams stops at the Timon lot, one for rows 1 - 12 and the other for rows beyond 12. These stops are clearly marked by signs above them saying "Tram." Guests should keep an eye out for these signs, because the trams will only stop at the specified loading and unloading stops. Guests should note that not every tram that goes by will stop. Some are servicing the Disneyland Resort Hotels and others may be full or out of service. Once aboard a tram, guests will be taken to the Tram loading and unloading area. Guests should be sure to return to the same stop in order to get back to the Timon lot. Cast Members will announce that the tram is the "Lion King Tram" because it goes to both the Timon and Simba sections of the parking lot. The tram will stop at both Timon sections before continuing to Simba. Guests who wish to walk into the park from Timon can follow the signs to the walkway along Harbor Blvd., which will eventually lead to the Lion King tram stop and a decorative walkway entrance to the theme parks.
Guets who arrive later in the day and enter from Harbor Blvd will probably be directed to the Simba section of the parking lot. This lot is situated south of the Paradise Pier Hotel. Guests cannot enter the Simba lot off of West St. There are gates there, but that is only to allow guests who have entered through Harbor Blvd access to the lot. There are two tram stops, one behind the Paradise Pier Hotel and one to the south of the hotel. As with the other lots theses stops are marked and trams only stop at the designated areas. Unfortunately guests who park in the far corner of the lot near Katella will have a very long way to walk. The trams that are used in Simba are shared with the Timon lot. Guests on their way back to the Simba lot may make a few stops to pickup guests waiting in Timon. This tram will then go to the tram loading area, near the Main Entrances to both parks. Guests should remember where they were dropped off because this is where they will need to pick up the tram again when they decide to leave. Guests parked in Simba may wish to walk over to the Disneyland Hotel and take the Monorail or Hotel Tram to the main gates. The monorail may be a better choice for Disneyland guests because all the lines at the Main Entrance can be avoided. However, the monorail is filled very quickly because many Disneyland guests go on it for the ride and not for transportation, which may cause a longer wait. Guests should also note that the Monorail is not always running, or may be making "one-way trips only" due to ongoing construction in California Adventure. Guests on their way to Disney's California Adventure must use the tram, as the Monorail does not stop at DCA. Guests who wish to walk to any of the theme parks may do so by walking through the Disneyland Hotel over the Downtown Disney parking lot, located on the north side of the hotel and the south side of the Mickey and Friends parking structure. A bridge from this lot leads across Disneyland Drive and into Downtown Disney. Guests can walk through Dow ntown Disney past The World Of Disney store, where they will emerge along side the Mickey and Friends tram loading/unloading area and can walk to any of the theme parks' main entrances.
The Mickey and Friends parking structure sits off of Disneyland Dr. and is accessible by taking Ball Rd. westbound to Disneyland Dr. and making a left. Guests who are Annual Passholders are required to park in this location, and may not park in the Timon or Simba lots. Guests traveling with RVs, trailer-tractors or other oversized vehicles must also park in a special area next to the Mickey and Friends structure as no other lot provides spaces large enough. Guests on their way to the parking structure should stay to the left on the entrance ramp and follow the signs reading "Theme Parks", as the other half of the ramp leads to the Downtown Disney parking lot and does not have access to the theme parks. Guests can also access this ramp directly by taking the I-5 southbound and exiting on Disneyland Drive and following the signs that read "Theme Parks." The Mickey and Friends structure is north of the Disneyland Hotel and Downtown Disney lot. The six story parking structure holds over ten thousand cars and is the largest structure in the United States. There are numerous trams running to the structure, and it takes less time to get to the Main Entrances from here than from the Simba lot. A large, landscaped tram stop is located next to the structure at the bottom of the escalators. The structure is accessible by escalator and elevator, and is also the only parking location with restrooms. Once aboard, the tram will take you to the Mickey and Friends tram load/unloading area. The Mickey and Friends tram stop and loading/unloading area is located in front of the entrance to the Grand Californian Hotel on the Eeyore section of the old Disneyland parking lot near the main entrance to both theme parks. When guests exit the park they will notice the stop is on their right hand side as opposed to the left, where the Simba/Timon and hotel tram stops are. Guests should be sure to go to the correct tram or they could spend a good hour trying to get back to the right lot. Upon boarding the tram, the Cast Member will an nounce that it is the Mickey and Friends/Oversized Vehicle Parking Lot tram. Guests who would prefer to walk into the park may do so by crossing over into the Downtown Disney lot, where they can access the Downtown Disney walkway over Disneyland Drive, through Downtown Disney to the main entrances of the theme parks.
The fourth and final parking area is that for Downtown Disney. It is located in between the Disneyland Hotel and the Mickey and Friends parking structure, just north of the hotel and just south of the structure. It can be accessed in two ways: Guests can take the I-5 southbound and exit Disneyland Drive, continue past the signs directing to the theme parks (do not follow these signs) to Magic Way. Guests should make a right turn on Magic Way and the lot is right there. Guests can also access this lot by taking Ball Road westbound to Disneyland Drive and making a left. Guests should stay to their right once on the ramp and follow the signs to "Disney Resort Hotels and Downtown Disney", which will lead directly to Magic Way and access to the Downtown Disney lot. There are no trams at the Downtown Disney lot. Instead, guests can access Downtown Disney via a large walkway across Disneyland Drive. If they choose guests can walk all the way through Downtown Disney to the main entrance of the theme parks.
The first three hours of parking at the Downtown Disney lots
are FREE. An additional two hours can be validated at the
AMC Theaters and at table-service dining restaurants. After
that, the cost is $6 for each additional hour, charged in
20-minute increments. The maximum fee is $30, plus an
additional $6.00 if the Valet is used. Valet Parking is
available from 5:00pm-2:00am for $6.
The Pumba lot is the reserve parking area for the Disneyland Resort. It sits off Freedman Way about a ¼ mile from the East Esplanade, Harbor Blvd. walkway entrance. This lot is only used on VERY busy days, such as July 4th or New Years Eve. Parking at this lot is only $5, but guests must walk into The Disneyland Resort as no trams are provided. To access this lot guests can take Harbor Blvd. and make a left on Freedman Way. The lot is on the left hand side. Guests should not expect to find this lot open, it is only used when the other four parking areas are completely full.
Guests taking an RV, bus, tractor-trailer or oversized vehicle with them to Disneyland will need to park in the Mickey and Friends parking structure section. No other lot offers oversized vehicle parking at this time. These guests will not actually be parking in the structure, but directed to a special oversized vehicle lot directly next to the structure. The Mickey and Friends parking structure must be accessed by taking the Disneyland Drive entrance ramp, either by taking the appropriate exit off the I-5 southbound freeway or by turning onto Disneyland Dr. from Ball Road.
Each lot offers handicapped parking near its tram stops. The trams are equipped with a special section and ramp for handicapped persons, but are not always in use. Guests traveling with a handicapped person should keep an eye out for a white Plymouth Voyager minivan. These vans are specially equipped with ramps and trained cast members. They transport guests to either the Lion King Tram lot or the Mickey and Friends parking structure tram lot, depending on where guests have parked. If you do not see one, notify a parking lot cast member for assistance. These vans usually will follow trams back and forth. The trams themselves are also equipped to hold wheelchairs and handicapped persons if necessary, as space is available in the first car of each tram. Once again guests should ask a Cast Member for assistance.
Before leaving their car for a day of fun, guests should be sure to note where their car is parked. Most importantly guests should remember the name of the lot or structure where they are parked so that they can return on the appropriate tram. Guests parked in the Mickey and Friends parking structure should remember what level they parked on: Chip and Dale, Daisy, Mickey, Goofy, Donald, or Minnie. Each level is coded with a character as well a color, so if a guest doesn't remember one hopefully they can remember the other. The Timon, Simba, Pumbaa, and Downtown Disney lots have light poles at every third row in the lot with the section (Timon, Simba, etc.), a number and a letter. The parking structure levels have cement poles marked with similar information. The top level, Minnie - Level 6, has light post markings similar to those on the rest of the lots. Guests will probably want to keep an eye out for their row number, which is located on the ground at the end of each row. The letters on each light post/pole mark the distance from the tram stop or the entrance to the parking level/structure. These letters start at A and then continue on until the end of the row. Guests will probably want to write this information down to help find their car later in the day. Guests can mark the information on the parking receipt received when entering the parking section. Guests may also receive a trading card type receipt or slip of paper that lists the parking section of your car. These are also good places for guests to mark the exact location where they parked and can be used as reminders in determining what tram guests need to take. Guests should NOT remember where they were parked by the cars that are parked next to them. People come and go during the day, which means the cars that are around when a guest arrives could be extremely different when the guest returns to his/her car. We recommend that guests use the section information provided by Disneyland.
Guests wishing to leave a Disneyland Resort parking lot and return the same day will be able to do so without any extra charge. Guests should be sure to keep the receipt they handed out upon entering the parking lot and present it to the Cast Member when they decide to reenter. This helps with guests wishing to return to their hotels for a rest or find a place to eat outside of the Resort.
Guests staying at a local hotel near the Disneyland Resort with a free shuttle service to the park are taken to the hotel tram drop off area. The hotel tram drop off area is in the same area of the Lion King tram stop near the main entrances of the theme parks. It is located to the right of the main entrances. Guests should remember the location of the stop as it is where they pick up the tram later in the day. We recommend that guests staying at a hotel off Harbor Blvd. near the resort walk rather than take a tram, as it is probably faster and easier to do. Guests can walk across Harbor Blvd. at a signal light intersection near the Lion King and hotel tram stops, and keep walking right towards the main entrances of both parks. In fact we recommend that guests staying at any local hotel walk into the resort rather than take a car if they do not mind the extra exercise.
