Description:
The Golden Horseshoe Stage features two different performances, Billy Hill and the Hillbillies and the Golden Horseshoe Variety Show. Each of these are shown on different days so check the Disneyland Today guide for details on which show is playing. Both include corny humor and are quite entertaining.
The Golden Horseshoe requires reservations to see the show. You can look at the Disneyland Today guide to find out when the show is and then you can proceed to the Stage entrance to make your reservations. To get reservations for the show that you want I would recommend arriving in the morning to make the reservation. Also, note that you will be asked to arrive a half-hour before show time to get a seat. You can arrive later but you will not necessarily get the best seat in the house. Small refreshments are also offered once inside the theater.
Reviews:
Yes, the Billy Hill and the Hillbillies show is humorous, but the music is also outstanding. This show is my favorite attraction in the park. We come nearly every Sunday morning especially to see that show. All four "hillbillies" are outstanding musicians who have much different musical careers outside the park. Evan Marshall (Mandolin Billy) is arguably the best mandolin player alive today, with three CD's to his name. You see some of his tremendous talent when he plays the "Billy" Tell Overature. It may be hard to notice just how great the music actually is though, as one tends to be laughing so hard througout the show. Ever notice that there's nearly always someone in line an hour before the the show lets in? (at least when I'm there on Sundays). We all want those front row seats. We've met lots of Billy Hill fans waiting on the porch. Once there were 21 people there, who comprised part of the Billy Hill and the Hillbillies Salt Lake City Fan Club, wearing their fan club badges and all. I enjoy them so much I've put up The Unofficial Billy Hill and the Hillbillies Fan Club
The Billy Hill and the Hillbillies show at the Golden Horseshoe is really a "must see". Great musicians who put on a hilarious show. I recommend it as a lunch break, as the cheeseburgers and fries, or chili bread bowls are as reasonable as prices get in the park. If you have at least four people (preferably five) order one piece of chocolate cake to split among you. Reservations are needed for the lunch show, so get them early. However, if you miss those reservations, try a later show that doesn't require reservations. Get in line for your food as soon as you go in, then relax, eat and get ready to clap your hands, stomp your feet, and laugh till your stomach shakes.
