Haunted Mansion

Type of Ride: Tour through a haunted house
Rating: DDDD, one attraction not to be missed
Length: 6 minutes
Average Wait: 30 minutes
When to Ride: Early morning or evening around the nighttime show and after
Age Group: pre-teen and older
Special Restrictions/Considerations:
Guests must be able to leave their wheelchairs and get into a moving vehicle. Cast Members will stop the ride to accommodate those who cannot make it into the ride vehicle in time. Also, small children may be frightened by some of the scenes and effects, although I wouldn't doubt a few adults are scared too.

History:

Location:
The grand old antebellum mansion sits at the north end of New Orleans Square all by itself.

Description:
Take a tour through this old mansion on the hill and visit with 999 happy haunts. The Haunted Mansion is a dark ride, where you get to see ghouls, ghosts, and goblins at their finest, with a little help from Disney's Imagineers of course. Your tour begins in a foyer, which is waiting room for the stretch rooms. From the stretch rooms you are led down a short hall, and then you are put on the Omnimover system that will take you through the mansion.

The Haunted Mansion tends to get a little busy during the day like many of the more popular rides, it is recommended that you visit the Mansion in the evening during Fantasmic!, since this is when the lines are the shortest, if there are any at all. Also note that once you enter the Mansion and are about to board the ride split your group into smaller groups of two. This way you are not stuck on the moving platform trying to decide which "Doom Buggy" to ride in.

Bonus Material:
Haunted Mansion In-Depth

Reviews:
"I love visitng your page but I decided to ride because I thought your review for The Haunted Mansion ( in my opinion one of the best rides in the park the other is Pirates of the caribbean) was a little simplistic. This ride is an Imagineering marvek and is a wonderful experience for fans who are interested in learning the answer to " how'd they do that? "."

"I have been to Disneyland many times and that is always the first and last ride I go on. As an aspiring Imagineer for Disney I just hope that I get to work on a project as wonderful and as much fun as working on The Haunted Mansion must have been."

I really like the haunted, but think its time they do some major changes to it. Year after year of the the ride gets kind of boring. Many teens and adults enjoy this ride, but if you ride it once a year you can probably memorize the ride. I hope they make big changes in the ride that make the ride scary and unpredictable. DIsney is probably afraid to make big changes, but I think its worth the risk.
- Eric of San Diego

I must disagree with Eric of San Diego, I rode the Haunted Mansion during it's first week of operation in 1969 and I STILL enjoy riding it at least once every time I visit the Magic Kingdom. I grew up in Fullerton and later, lived in San Diego. I've kept year-passes for many of those years and always rode the HM with great satisfaction, although I think it does need to slow down to it's original 6.3 minute minimum, (but all the rides need to slow back down to what Walt wanted them to be!). Don't change a thing, it's wonderful just the way it is. My children enjoy it and I look forward to the day (way in the future) when I get to take my grandchildren get to go there with me.
- Ken Heath of Boise, Idaho

I just wanted to write about my opinion of the "Haunted Mansion". I am a 12 year old girl (I'll be 13 in a month), born and raised in southern California, so naturally I visit Disneyland alot. But no matter how many times I ride the "Haunted Mansion", I still get scared to death. I am usually shaking before I enter the building, and when I'm inside, I am terrified. You better hope you're not the one next to me cause I'll scream your ear off. So, this just shows that even older kids can get scared on this eerie attraction.
- Michelle G. Due to my job relocation, I haven't been to DL for quite a while, but have been reading and watching things going on through your site and others as well. I love the HM and always ride it at least twice. I was pleasantly surprised at the changes made. I read some of the reviews, and wanted to address one person that said the ride hasn't changed. I beg to differ. I felt like a little kid again, oohing and aahing at the effects. Everything looked brand new. Even though I do miss the guy in the suit of armor, the ride has lost none of it's mesmorizing charm and managed to scare me a couple of times. The folks at DL never cease to amaze me! Thanks for providing me with a great day!
