The Story
How'd They Do That?

How do they make it so you can’t see the guy hanging when you first enter the stretch room?

If you look very closely when you first enter the room you will notice that all the ceiling is, is painted cloth. This allows them to light it from your side and not be able to see through the cloth. When the lights go out on your side and the lightning flashes on the other side you can see through the cloth and if you look close enough you can still see the painted designs on it.

How do they make the busts follow you?

This is a very simple trick. All you have to do is invert the bust and put special lights on it. If the lighting is right like in the Haunted Mansion they will look like they follow you. If you want to buy on look for the in Halloween Stores around Halloween and also they sometimes sell them in the gag factory in Toontown.

How do they make the candle float in the first room?

The candle is actually sitting there, held up by a wire. The gauze helps to hide the wire that holds it up.

How do they make the first room look like it never ends?

The room actually runs the legnth of the Ballroom, and at the end of it there is a mirror. They have put two sheet of qauze to somewhat hide the reflection of the Doom Buggies and the people in them.

How do they make the different items in the seance room float?

Most people already probably realize this but they are lit by black lights and hung from motors by a string. By using the black lights they string and motors can not be seen too well.

How do they make Madame Loeta’s face in the ball?

They have a laser disc player with the face playing hooked up to a projector projecting onto a bundle of fiber optic wires that run to the head in the ball.

How do they make the ballroom scene with the people in it?

They use a 19th century trick called peppers ghost. Above and below you are the audio-animatronics that are shown in the ballroom. In front of you is a piece of glass that has the reflection of the characters that have been lit up. Since the ballroom is lit you can see both the characters and the room at the same time so it looks like the characters are inside the ballroom.

How do they do the singing busts in the graveyard?

They do the same thing as with Madame Loeta. It’s a projection but this time not with fiber optics just a reflection onto the busts.

How do they make the ghost that follows you home?

They use 50-50 mirrors like the ones used for security and have you well lit on one side and a ghost on the other side lit only enough to see him through the mirror. The ghosts are on a track moving at the same speed you are so they look like they are in the Doom Buggy.
