Pirates of the Caribbean

Type of Ride: Boat ride through pirate coves, and a pillaged and plundered city.
Rating: DDDD, very good story line and visuals
Length: 15 minutes
Average Wait: 20 minutes
When to Ride: Early morning or during and after the nighttime shows
Age Group: All
Special Restrictions/Considerations:
Guests must be able to leave their wheel chairs and step down into the boats. This ride is also not recommended for guests who do not enjoy plummeting a few stories.

History:

Location:
Pirates of the Caribbean is situated right past the Swiss Family Treehouse in a building that looks very much like a shop. There is a bridge that goes over the line for Pirates, so you'll want to walk around this to get into line.

Description:
Pirates of the Caribbean was one of the last attractions that Walt Disney himself was involved in the development of before his death. The ride starts out in a calm New Orleans bayou, and then adventures plummet three stories in the caverns of the pirates. Once down here riders are warned that "Dead men tell no tales", and watch as Pirates bombard a Spanish fort and then take over a pillage and plunder in the city. After its recent renovation Pirates of the Caribbean has been changed to add the seven deadly sins and warn visitors that greed does not pay.

Reviews:
As a D-Land fanatic myself, I enjoy your page immensely. Yet, I found your "Pirates of the Carribean" review to be less than enthusiastic, at least to my taste. Yes, you gave it the customary "DDDD" rating, but I hardly think "good visuals" sums up this most extraordinary and unequaled attraction. Never before or since has an attraction offered this sort of breadth and scope (15 minutes!!!) and even with the completely unnecessary (politically correct?) evisceration it suffered a few years back, it still remains the best "dark ride" in the world --- and that includes the other Disney parks. Surely Walt's last hurrah deserves higher praise, for instance the sort that is heaped on the Indy attraction. Newer is not always better.

Other favorites may come and go, but "Pirates" remains right up there at the top. I don't know what it is, atmosphere I guess, but when I return home from my Disneyland vacations this is the one I can't stop thinking about. And to think, come evening, you can walk right on....Wow!
